Propeller Club of Portland, Maine

Events

WOW!  What a summer weather wise.  The weather has been great and I hope all of you have had some time to enjoy it.  We start our first dinner meeting this coming September 8th (Wednesday night) at Dimillos.  Starting in October the dinner meetings will return to being the 2nd Thursday of each month up through April 2011.

Our very own Pres. Mr. Bruce Yates JR worked with members of the board and recently issued a letter to Gov Baldacci in regards to the much needed pier extension to the Ocean Gateway.  Click here to read the most recent article in the PPH.  The Propeller Club of Portland ME stands behind this project and has voiced an opinion to make this pier, when complete, functional for all aspects in which it could be used for.   Keeping the best interest of all in the port,  we as the board feel the final project should be able to accomodate cruise ships up to approx 1200′ in length and during non-cruise ship calls the berth can be used for a layberth of tankers that call into Portland ME.  Portland ME is looked at when ship owners need to find a home for ships that might need minor repairs or just a place to hide from a storm.  This fixed pier option would greatly enhance our chances to be able to bring more ships to Portland ME.

Couple of dates to keep in mind for the club:

-Annual Christmas Dinner Party (date TBA)
-Maritime Day 2011 (date TBA)
